Vickie Lakes-Battle, executive director of IFF’s Chicago Metro Region, spoke with Rufus Williams on WVON-AM to discuss Chicago’s Cultural Treasures, Culture Forward Chicago, and the need to invest in BIPOC arts and culture organizations.
“It’s really important for us in this moment to continue to do good work and to stay focused on the things that we do,” Vickie said. “With this particular Culture Forward initiative, this is a celebration, Rufus, and I think right now that we really have to look at the fact that so much cultural vibrancy and depth in the Chicagoland area comes from Black, Indigenous, and immigrant communities.”
